Why should anyone read The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne?

If i were to recommend The Scarlet Letter to somebody, (even if I dislike it personally), what would be my reasons? What examples, quotes should I use? I have to consider the diction, connotation, and tone used in the book.....please help me! thanks in advance...
