The religiously fervent believers use their brand of "faith" in order to achieve power and control over the mes. It's sort of like "killing them with kindness." These people also instill fear into the gullible minds of others in order to get them to join their ranks. The "faithful" depend on an ignorant and uneducated society to accomplish their goals. They are not much different than any extremist political movement in terms of their methods..
